North Yorkshire Community Anchor Organisations are voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations, rooted in their local area and deeply embedded in local communities.

They have a track record of responding to the needs of their communities and have a base from where they offer support, deliver activities and collaborate with others. Working with North Yorkshire Council, they play a crucial role in connecting the dots between residents, local groups and organisations to deliver these outcomes:

  • increase community resilience for both good times and in emergency situations
  • increase local capacity to deliver services by utilising local partnerships and alliances
  • create or support opportunities for more residents to be involved in local, social action which contributes to the five ways to wellbeing.

Better Connect and Community First Yorkshire are working together to deliver a capacity-building programme of support, funded by North Yorkshire Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The programme supports the community anchor organisations to further develop these seven characteristics:

  • crucial to the place and community where based
  • a voice for local people
  • already delivering services
  • independent and community led
  • collaborative, open and encouraging of other contributions
  • proactive with a can-do mindset
  • financially resilient.

Our support programme is tailored to the needs of these organisations and the communities they serve – building capacity, resources and resilience.
