Board and Committee Dynamics

Four clenched fists in contact with each other above an office desk.
Strong, purposeful, energetic – we’re talking about the dynamics of your charity board or management committee.

A strong board or committee can be a powerful tool for your charity or group – thriving on strong leadership, thoughtful teamwork and effective decision making. If you don’t get the relationships with your fellow trustees right, your organisation will suffer.

Board and committee dynamics are healthy when:

  • ideas are debated robustly, in a constructive way and respectfully
  • all members have an opportunity to speak and express themselves
  • relationships between members are strong.

This session will look at how you can build up these relationships and ensure your board and committee are as effective as they can be.

You will gain an understanding of:

  • What board and committee dynamics are – and why they matter
  • Some of the typical features of a well-functioning board and committee with good dynamics
  • How to recognise and help develop positive dynamics
  • Understanding ‘groupthink’ and tips on how to avoid this.
