A Community First Yorkshire event

Community Buildings Network – Environmental sustainability during Village Halls Week

To celebrate this year’s Village Halls Week, we’re inviting everyone to join us at a fantastic sustainability project in Monk Fryston.

The theme for this year’s national campaign is celebrating, encouraging and supporting volunteers. So, it’s especially apt to be visiting Monk Fryston’s community project – where volunteers from all walks of life are actively involved, recruited from a wide range of groups and organisations including the local primary school. The project is very much volunteer driven and is one that has engaged residents and visitors alike.

We will be joined on the day by the teams from IDOX (Grant Finders), Utility Aid (Energy and Utilities consultants) and Allied Westminster (insurance) who will each host a stall with information for you to take away.

What will you learn?

We’re excited to be able to bring a network meeting out into the communities of Monk Fryston and Hillam.
As part of the session, we will be introduced to Monk Fryston and Hillam Community Centre, hearing about its journey to become carbon neutral. Improvements at the centre include the installation of an air-source heat pump and a second battery to help store energy from their solar panels.

We will also visit Monk Fryston Primary School to hear how they have been working to improve their carbon footprint. Like the community centre, the school is part of the Village Community Buildings Sustainability Project, which also includes the Church, the Church Hall, the Cricket Club and the Football Club.

The National Lottery Community Fund awarded £29,532 to support the two-year Community Sustainability Project. Over the next two years a series of free public meetings will be held in the partner buildings, to show how renewable energy systems such as solar panels, electricity storage batteries and heat pumps work.

Who should attend?

This network meeting is for community building and village hall trustees across North, South and West Yorkshire, providing the opportunity to network and share information, advice, tips and thoughts on all aspects of running a hall.

What's included?

All attendees will receive a copy of presentations from the session.

Join us for bacon butties at 10am. Teas, coffees and a selection of cakes will also be provided by Community First Yorkshire at 12.30pm before we head over to the school.
