A Community First Yorkshire event

Canva 101: ace the Canva basics to boost your marketing and more

Running a charity or small organisation often means wearing many hats – including that of a designer. Whether you’re creating social media posts, flyers or reports, strong visuals help you stand out and communicate your message clearly. But without a design team or budget, it can feel overwhelming.

That’s where Canva comes in. This free, user-friendly design tool makes it easy to create professional-looking graphics, even if you’re a complete beginner. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to use Canva to create impactful visuals that support your marketing, fundraising and communications.

We’ll cover:

  • how to set up your Canva account with your team, projects and brand kit
  • how to create social media posts and videos
  • how to use Canva for presentations, flyers and infographics
  • how to access a free Canva Pro account for your charity.

What will you learn?

This session is designed for beginners and will walk you through the essentials of Canva. By the end of the workshop, you’ll:

  • understand Canva’s interface and key design tools
  • know how to create social media graphics, flyers and presentations
  • practise real-time design techniques in a guided session
  • leave with branded templates ready to use
  • know how to apply for a free Canva Pro account for your organisation.

Please set up a free Canva account before the session and have it open and ready to use.

Who should attend?

This session is designed for those who will be actively creating the visuals for their organisation. However, as Canva is such a powerful tool for all team members, everyone is welcome to learn the basics.

Please note this training is aimed at voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations and groups based in North Yorkshire or delivering services within North Yorkshire.

What's included?

All attendees should leave with the start of their first set of social media templates, their brand kit sorted and information on how to access Canva Pro for free.
